Four Gates Cabernet Franc 2007

25 Mar

A new release from micro-winery Four Gates, located in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. Each of Four Gates’ wines are hand-crafted by Benyamin Cantz, the winery’s sole proprietor, grower, wine maker, bottler, marketer, salesman, etc.; an incredible feat for just one man. Benyamin’s 2007 Cabernet Franc is an extraordinary specimen of the varietal and arguably the best production on the kosher market. This wine is a striking deep purple in the glass and has a dense and saturated nose with a notable aroma of dried and sweetened hibiscus. The attack is ripe with black fruit but immediately transitions to fabulous leafy green notes – almost as if there were a plant in the glass – highlighting the core characteristics of the varietal and providing a truly intriguing drinking experience. This wine is well extracted with a sturdy structure and a rounded, near-full body that’s flush with lively acidity and backed by a thin veneer of tannins. Currently, this wine is still tight, but it will loosen up over the next 6 months and will drink for the next 5+ years. L’Chaim!
